To connect Shopify, go to Settings > Connections > Add system > Shopify. Enter your store name, select Save, and approve Avid in Shopify. Avid gets read-only access to one store per connection. Shopify is a new integration, so check with LockStep Support before you connect.
Connecting Shopify brings your store's customers, orders, refunds, and products into Avid. Data flows one way, from Shopify to Avid. Avid can't change anything in your store.
Use this article when
- You want to connect a Shopify store to Avid.
- You want to know who in Shopify can approve the connection.
- Shopify showed a message when you tried to approve Avid.
Before you start
Shopify is a new integration, and it may not be ready for every organization yet. Contact LockStep Support before you connect, so they can confirm it's set up for you.
| Where | Settings > Connections > Add system |
|---|---|
| Plan | Any Avid plan except Avid Playbooks |
| Avid permission | Edit access to Connections |
| You need | Your Shopify store name, and a Shopify login that can approve apps |
Shopify decides who can approve an app on a store. This is Shopify's rule, not Avid's.
| Role | Required permission | What it enables in Avid | Where to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify store owner | None extra. Owners can approve apps. | Approve Avid's read-only access | Shopify admin > Settings > Users |
| Shopify staff | Manage and install apps and channels, plus access to the store areas Avid reads | Approve Avid's read-only access | Shopify admin > Settings > Users > the staff member |
| Avid user | Edit access to Connections | Use the Add system button | Ask your Avid admin. Without access, Add system is unavailable. |
What Avid can read in Shopify
Avid asks for 34 permissions, and every one is read-only. Avid syncs customers, orders, refunds, transactions, products, product variants, store details, and custom fields (metafields) on those records. Shopify lists the requested access on its approval screen.
The full list: read_analytics, read_assigned_fulfillment_orders, read_content, read_customers, read_discounts, read_draft_orders, read_fulfillments, read_gdpr_data_request, read_gift_cards, read_inventory, read_legal_policies, read_locations, read_locales, read_marketing_events, read_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders, read_online_store_pages, read_order_edits, read_orders, read_price_rules, read_product_listings, read_products, read_publications, read_purchase_options, read_reports, read_resource_feedbacks, read_script_tags, read_shipping, read_shopify_payments_accounts, read_shopify_payments_bank_accounts, read_shopify_payments_disputes, read_shopify_payments_payouts, read_themes, read_third_party_fulfillment_orders, read_translations.
Steps
- In Avid, go to Settings > Connections.
You see Connection Health and a card for each connected system. - Select Add system.
The Add a System window opens. -
Type Shopify in the search field, and then select the Shopify card.
You see the Shopify Store Name field. -
Enter your store name. That's the part of your Shopify admin address before
.myshopify.com.
Forhttps://my-store.myshopify.com/admin, entermy-store. If you paste the full address, Avid keeps only the store name. - Select Save.
Avid sends you to Shopify's approval screen for that store. - In Shopify, sign in to the store you entered if asked. Review the requested access, and then approve the install.
Shopify returns you to Avid, and you see Connection Successful.
To check the connection, find the new Shopify card on Settings > Connections. The card shows your store's name and a status badge:
- Initializing: Avid is waiting to start the first sync.
- Syncing: the sync is running.
- Active: the sync finished. The card shows when it last synced.
Each connection covers one store. To connect another store, repeat these steps, and you get a separate card.
Troubleshooting
Shopify says "This installation link can't be used"
Shopify shows this message when it won't install Avid on that store from this link. Try these fixes in order:
- Start again from Settings > Connections > Add system in Avid. Don't reuse an old Shopify link or a browser bookmark.
- Try again in a private or incognito browser window.
- Make sure you're signed in to the right Shopify store. It must match the store name you entered in Avid.
- Make sure you're the store owner, or staff with the Manage and install apps and channels permission.
If the message keeps appearing, contact LockStep Support.
Avid says "You didn't provide a valid Shopify store name"
The full message is You didn't provide a valid Shopify store name. Please try again. The field was blank, or it had spaces or symbols. A custom web address, such as shop.example.org, also won't work. Enter the name that comes before .myshopify.com in your Shopify admin address.
Avid says "Something went wrong when connecting to Shopify"
The full message is Something went wrong when connecting to Shopify. Please visit Settings to try again. This can happen if you approved a different store than the one you entered. It can also happen if Shopify didn't finish the approval. Start again from Settings > Connections, and approve the same store you enter.
Contact LockStep Support if you still can't connect. Include your .myshopify.com store name, the exact message, and the time you tried. Also say whether you're the store owner or staff.
