You can edit a touchpoint again as soon as its Generating badge clears. While it shows, the fields are locked and the Refine and Save buttons are hidden. The page updates on its own, so you don't need to refresh.
A touchpoint is one campaign deliverable in a play, such as an email, ad, or donation page. This guide shows how to refine a touchpoint's copy and tell when it's done. It also covers keeping or undoing the result.
Use this article when
- You want to know how long regeneration takes before you can edit.
- A touchpoint shows Generating and its fields are greyed out.
- You can't edit a touchpoint after you clicked Refine or Regenerate Content.
- You aren't sure whether to click Revert or Confirm.
Before you start
| Applies to | Touchpoints in a Playbook play |

Refine a touchpoint and wait for it to finish
-
Open your play and click Touchpoints.
Result: Your touchpoints appear as cards, each with a status such as Ready.
-
On the touchpoint you want to change, click Edit touchpoint (the pencil icon).
Result: The edit window opens with Refine and Save at the bottom.
The button reads Generate instead of Refine when Avid didn't write the copy, such as a touchpoint you imported. Its menu then shows Generate Content and Generate Content Using....
- If you changed any copy by hand, click Save first. Refine works from the last saved version.
-
Click Refine, then choose how to change the copy:
- Regenerate Content writes fresh copy. It starts right away, with no extra dialog.
- Under Refine Content Using..., choose Additional Guidance, Behavioral Psychology Concepts, Other Assets, or Writing Frameworks. Type your direction or pick an item, then click Refine. Other Assets appears only when another touchpoint in your play is complete.
Result: The status changes to Generating with a spinning icon.
-
Wait for the Generating badge to clear.
While it runs, the fields are greyed out and you can't type. The Refine and Save buttons are hidden. You can close the edit window and the run continues, but you can't reopen the touchpoint until it finishes.
Result: The badge clears and the fields unlock. The edit window now shows Revert and Confirm.
-
Review the new copy. Click Confirm to keep it, or Revert to restore the previous version.
Result: Refine and Save return, and you can edit the copy by hand.
Avid saves the new copy when generation finishes. Confirm keeps it. Revert puts back the content, images, and status from before the run. If you reload the page before you choose, Revert and Confirm no longer appear and the new copy stays.
Refining an Approved touchpoint sets it back to Ready. Click Confirm and approve it again, or click Revert to restore the approved version.
FAQ and troubleshooting
How long does regeneration take?
It varies, so Avid doesn't promise a set time. Watch the Generating badge instead of a clock. Runs that also create a new image take longer, because the touchpoint stays locked until the first image is ready. Other image sizes can arrive after the fields unlock.
Why do I see "Failed to refine this touchpoint"?
Failed to refine this touchpoint. Please try again.
Cause: Avid couldn't start the run, for example because of a dropped connection or a temporary server error.
What happens: The fields unlock and your earlier copy stays as it was.
Fix: Click Refine again. If the message repeats, reload the page and try once more.
The badge cleared, but my copy didn't change. What now?
A run can end without new copy. If you used Additional Guidance, check that you typed your direction in the box. Then click Refine and try again. If it happens again, contact LockStep Support.
What if a touchpoint is stuck on Generating?
If the badge hasn't cleared after a few minutes, reload the page. The page may have missed the update. If it still shows Generating, contact LockStep Support. Include:
- Your organization name, plus the play and touchpoint names.
- The option you chose, such as Regenerate Content or Additional Guidance.
- When you started the run and any error message you saw.
