Use this article when
- Your Pathway has stopped syncing or appears “stuck.”
- You recently removed or replaced a dataset Connection or Subscriber Connection.
- You see Audiences marked as archived in Pathways → Manage Pathways.
- You want to safely turn the sync back on without recreating the Pathway from scratch.

Why Pathways can stop syncing
Pathways can stop syncing when the inputs they depend on change. This can happen if you:
- Change an Audience definition so it no longer matches its original data source.
- Remove or replace a dataset Connection.
- Remove or replace a Subscriber Connection.
When this happens, the Pathway sync can stop and Avid can archive the related Audiences. Downstream tools will no longer receive updates from that Pathway until you restore those Audiences and turn the sync back on.
Review the warning before removing a connection
Before you remove a Connection, Avid shows a warning message. This warning tells you if the change will:
- Stop one or more Pathway syncs.
- Archive the Audiences associated with those Pathways.
Steps
-
In Avid, go to Pathways → Manage Audiences.
You see the list of Audiences that participate in Pathways, along with their current status.
-
Open the filter menu to show archived Audiences:
- Click the filter button
in the top-right corner of the page.
- Check the Archived filter.
The table updates to include all archived Audiences that were previously used in Pathways.
- Click the filter button
-
Find the Audience or Audiences you want to restore.
You can restore multiple Audiences at once:
- Select them using the checkboxes to the left of each Audience name.
Or restore a single Audience at a time using the row action.
-
Restore the selected Audiences:
- With multiple Audiences selected, click the Restore button
at the top of the table.
- Or, to restore a single Audience, click the Restore button
on that Audience’s row.
The Audience status changes from archived to active, and it becomes available to use in Pathways again.
- With multiple Audiences selected, click the Restore button
-
Go to the Manage Pathways tab to locate the affected Pathway.
Find the Pathway that previously used the Audience you restored.
-
Locate the Pathway and re-enable its sync.
Click the Actions
button next to the Pathway you want to activate, then Activate Sync. The Pathway status updates to show that the sync is active again.
-
Confirm that the Pathway is syncing as expected.
Check the Pathway’s recent activity or your downstream system to verify that new donors or records are flowing again.
What You'll See
- The affected Audiences are restored from archived to active.
- The Pathway sync is turned back on and resumes sending updates.
- Downstream systems begin receiving fresh data from the Pathway again.
Next steps
- Review other Pathways that used the same Connection to confirm they are also syncing.
- Document which Connections your key Pathways depend on before making future changes.
- For details on Connections, see:
Notes and limits
- If you fully delete a dataset or Subscriber Connection, you may need to recreate it before you can restore the Pathway.
- A single Connection change can impact multiple Pathways and Audiences. Review the warning carefully before you confirm.
- Audiences that no longer have a valid underlying data source may not be eligible for restore.
- Always confirm that your Audience logic still matches your reporting and segmentation needs after a restore.
