Connect your Marketo instance to Avid by creating an API user and entering your credentials so Avid can read your email engagement data.
Use this article when
- You want to connect Marketo (Adobe Marketo Engage) to Avid for the first time.
- You need to generate API credentials for the Avid integration.
- You are troubleshooting a failed Marketo connection.
Applies to and prerequisites
| Applies to | All Avid plans that include email integrations. |
| Email platform | Adobe Marketo Engage |
| Avid areas | Settings > Connections (Email Marketing) |
| Recommended roles |
|
| Estimated time | 15-20 minutes to configure API credentials; up to 24 hours for first data sync |
Steps
1. Start the connection from Avid
- Log in to Avid.
- Go to Settings in the left navigation.
- Click Connections.
- Find the Marketo tile. You can also reach this from the Avid AI Integration Checklist by clicking Email Marketing.
- Click Connect. Avid displays fields for your Marketo API credentials. Keep this tab open while you set up credentials in Marketo.
(Optional) 2. Whitelist Avid IP addresses in Marketo
If your Marketo instance has IP Restriction enabled, you must whitelist the following Avid IP addresses before connecting:
34.134.158.2535.239.30.2235.238.235.14835.225.16.95
Follow the Marketo documentation for allowlisting IP addresses for API-based access.
If IP Restriction is not enabled, skip this step.
3. Create an API-only Marketo user role
- Log in to Marketo as an Admin.
- Follow the Marketo documentation for creating an API-only user role.
- Assign the role the read permissions for email and campaign data, following Marketo's API-only role documentation.
4. Create an API-only user for Avid
- Follow the Marketo documentation to create an API-only user.
- Assign the API-only role you created in Step 3 to this user.
5. Create a Marketo API custom service
- Follow the Marketo documentation for creating a custom service for use with a REST API.
- In the custom service settings, follow the "Credentials for API Access" section to generate a Client ID and Client Secret.
- Copy both values. You will paste them into Avid in a later step.
6. Obtain your Endpoint URL
- Follow the Marketo documentation for obtaining your base URL.
- Copy your Endpoint URL, but remove the trailing
/restportion. For example, if your endpoint ishttps://123-ABC-456.mktorest.com/rest, copy onlyhttps://123-ABC-456.mktorest.com.
7. Enter credentials in Avid
- Return to the Avid tab you left open in Step 1.
- Paste the following values into the corresponding fields:
- Client ID -- from the custom service
- Client Secret -- from the custom service
-
Domain URL -- your Endpoint URL without
/rest
- Click Save.
Avid validates your credentials. If the connection succeeds, the Marketo tile shows as connected.
Store your Client Secret securely. If you lose it, you must regenerate a new secret in Marketo.
What you'll see after connecting
- The Marketo tile in Settings > Connections shows a connected status.
- Avid begins backfilling your email engagement data. Check back in about 24 hours for data in insights and pathways.
- You receive a reminder from Avid to customize any column mapping and approve default settings once the initial sync completes.
Next steps
- Review and customize column mappings and default settings when the initial sync completes.
- Invite team members to join Avid.
- Use your email metrics in Pathways segments and playbooks once data has synced.
- If you also use other email tools, see the related integration articles in this section.
Troubleshooting
Connection fails after entering credentials
- Verify the Domain URL does not include
/restat the end. - Confirm the Client ID and Client Secret are copied exactly, with no extra spaces.
- Check that the API-only user and custom service are both active in Marketo.
- If IP Restriction is enabled, confirm Avid's IP addresses are on the allowlist.
Data does not appear after 24 hours
- Return to Settings > Connections and confirm the Marketo tile still shows as connected.
- If the connection shows an error, verify your API credentials are still valid in Marketo.
- Confirm the API-only user role has the necessary permissions to read email data.
If the issue persists, contact support with a screenshot of your connection status and any error messages.
Get help or use file uploads instead
If you are still struggling to connect Marketo, open the Support form from the navigation and include:
- A brief description of what you tried.
- The exact error message, if any.
- Screenshots of the custom service and API user configuration in Marketo.
If you decide not to connect Marketo directly, you can still load data into Avid with files: When should I use file uploads?
