Workflow overview
Approval and launch happen at the touchpoint level inside a play:
- Edit touchpoint content and timing on the Touchpoints tab.
- Approve each touchpoint when content is ready.
- Preview or Launch approved touchpoints to connected destinations.
The play itself shows a status badge such as Draft or Active in the touchpoints header.
Steps
-
Open your play in Playbooks. Review Strategy, Audiences, and Touchpoints.
Confirm every touchpoint finished generating. Touchpoints still generating cannot be approved.
-
On the Touchpoints tab, open the actions menu (⋮) on a touchpoint and click Edit if content needs changes.
Save your edits. Repeat for each touchpoint that needs updates.
-
When a touchpoint is ready, open the actions menu and click Approve.
The touchpoint status changes to Approved.
-
Click Preview Play in the builder toolbar to review the full play before launch.
If you selected specific touchpoints, the button reads Preview [n] Touchpoint(s). Draft touchpoints cannot be previewed.
-
On the launch screen, connect destinations or choose export options, then click Launch Play.
Avid deploys approved touchpoints. Status changes to Deploying, then Launched when complete.
-
Monitor deployment progress on the checklist screen.
If a touchpoint fails, the status shows Failed with an error message you can use for troubleshooting.
What you will see
Approved touchpoints show a green Approved status. After launch, successful touchpoints show Launched. Performance data flows into Insights as donors interact with the campaign.
Common issues
- Approve is disabled — the touchpoint is still generating or is a draft without content. Wait for generation to finish or finish editing the asset.
- Preview Play is disabled — you selected a draft touchpoint. Deselect drafts or complete them first.
- Launch fails — a destination connection is missing or expired. Reconnect the integration in Settings > Connections and try again.
LockStep insight: Complete approval well before the first scheduled launch date. That gives you time to fix content without missing your timeline.

Notes and limits
- You approve touchpoints individually, not the entire play in one action.
- Changing content after approval may require re-approval before launch.
- Some channels need extra lead time (for example, direct mail production).
