Canadian organizations can be configured for Canadian data residency to keep core data storage and reporting in-region. This article explains what stays in-region, what broader security controls still apply, and how benchmark availability works.
Use this article when
- You need to understand where Avid stores and processes data for a Canadian organization.
- You are evaluating Avid for a Canadian team with in-region data requirements.
- You are confirming what Avid stores in-region versus what is handled by broader controls.
- You want to know how benchmarks behave when Canadian data residency is selected.
What Canadian data residency means
Avid can store supported customer data resources in a Canadian Google Cloud region for organizations that require in-region storage and reporting. When you are set to Canada, your Avid environment is configured so that supported data resources and reporting data are created in the Canada (northamerica-northeast2) region.
What is handled in-region
- Reporting and data storage: BigQuery datasets used for reporting and data processing are created in the Canada region when Canada is the Data Residency.
- Data sync infrastructure: Avid configures data sync infrastructure to use Canada-region destinations so integrated data flows to the in-region environment.
- Regionalized file storage: Regionalized file storage buckets include a Canada-region suffix based on the account’s region setting.
What is not covered by the residency selection
Not every Avid service uses the same regionalized storage pattern. The following storage areas are not currently regionalized by the Data Residency setting:
- Image uploads
- Pathway result downloads
- Vector storage
If your organization requires a complete Canada-only data boundary, let us know during evaluation so we can review your specific requirements.
SOC 2 and security documentation
Avid’s security controls apply across all regions:
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Access controls restrict who can view or manage data.
- Avid holds third-party audits and accreditations, including SOC 2 Type II.

Benchmark limitations
Benchmark behavior can depend on the account’s residency configuration and the benchmark data available for that account. Before you rely on benchmarks for a Canada-region organization, confirm the following with Avid:
- Which benchmarks are available for the account.
- Whether the comparison pool is appropriate for your organization.
- Whether any benchmark views are unavailable or limited because of the residency configuration.
Set this before data is loaded
Important: Changing data residency after data has been uploaded or after non-file integrations are connected is constrained by Avid’s migration limits. The best time to set Canadian data residency is during account setup, before any data is loaded.
To request or confirm Canadian data residency, contact your Avid rep during onboarding or account configuration. Our team can review your requirements and confirm whether your environment can be configured for Canada.
