One of the common challenges users face in Avid is understanding exactly which individuals from their audience are being sent to which external destinations. Definitions around audience segments can often be opaque, and the logic behind who qualifies for what action can be unclear.
To address this, Avid has introduced enhanced features that offer improved transparency and control over audience segmentations and sync behaviors. These updates include clearer definitions of audience segments, previewable record lists, and destination-specific filter controls that act as guardrails when pushing data.
Previewing Audience Definitions Before Syncing
When preparing to push an audience segment—like broad-based donors—to a platform such as HubSpot, Avid now provides a clear, human-readable breakdown of what defines that audience.
Example Definition: A "Broadbase Donor" is defined as:
- A user without a mid-level donor ID.
- A user without a major gift ID.
- A user whose first gift date is not blank.
This allows you to fully understand the inclusion criteria for the audience you’re working with.
Reviewing Audience Size and Exporting Records
Once you initiate the review process:
- Avid displays the total number of contacts that match the defined segment.
- You can Download Records containing all these records. This feature allows you to preview and analyze the data without sending it to the final destination.
This is particularly helpful for audits or review purposes before committing to a data push.
Adding Destination-Specific Guardrails
Avid now supports custom filter rules based on the destination platform. These filters serve as default constraints to ensure only qualified data is synced to external tools.

Navigate to Managed Pathways.

Find your Pathway Destination (Hubspot, Mailchimp, etc.)

Use the filter button
to set custom conditions.

For Email Platforms: Ensure only users whose email is marked as “primary” are pushed or only those who have a certain subscription.

For Advertising Platforms: Exclude donors who haven't given explicit consent for their data to be used or who have given above a certain threshold.

- Create your filter on the next page and press "Save". This will be applied to all current and future audiences syncing to your destination software.
These filters help maintain data hygiene and compliance across platforms.
Applying and Overriding Filters
When pushing data:
- Avid shows both the audience definition and the pathway filter applied.
- Filters are automatically applied based on your configuration.
However, Avid provides flexibility:
- You can unclick a default filter if you need to bypass it—for instance, when syncing an opt-out list or a temporary segment that doesn’t meet standard qualifications.
This override ability ensures you can maintain control while preserving consistency in everyday operations.
